Details on my hiatus.

I have mentioned on both Facebook and Model Mayhem that I am taking a hiatus and I’ve also had people ask me about it, so I thought I would write a little about it. There are a few people that I have discussed shooting with prior to my decision to go on hiatus, and I am still committed to shooting with them when the time comes. They do not need to worry about me backing out on them because of this hiatus. And “hiatus” does not mean I won’t be doing photography whatsoever. I am setting some time aside for myself to focus on a few other things and personal projects.ย

Most photographers and models already know that some shoots require some funds to be spent on them. Props, accessories, liquids, textures, backdrops, stuff like that. I’ve done shoots where I’ve brought nothing at all with me, but I have also done shoots where I’ve purchased things to make the look happen. Doing this can lead to a very rewarding end result! I enjoy getting what I need to create beautiful images. My car really needs a little TLC right now, and this hiatus might help me save a little. I’ve been trying to cut back on extra spending, especially since this is a slower time of the year for me at work.

Another reason I am taking a break is because I am really backed up in my edits. Mainly live music images. I have folders from shows I attended in 2012 that still have yet to see the Internets. I’m sure the bands and fans will be happy to see them when I finally get them uploaded, but I wish I didn’t take some long. I used to be really good about getting sets uploaded in a timely manner, but I completely lost it at some point. Sorry. I want to catch up and also be able to revisit some of the sets I have done with models and give some of those unseen gems the attention they deserve.

Another thing I would like to mention is where my mind is at with my art. I am first, and foremost, an artist. In addition to photography, I love to paint, I love to draw, I love to make things. Sometimes I feel bound to my photography. I would like to spend time in other areas before I fall more out of touch with them. I have had an affordable modeling shoot deal for a few years now. It’s an extremely rare occasion that I ever make money from doing photography. I still have yet to see any of my work published. I heard I have been in one zine, but I have never physically seen it. The only thing I have seen is CDs of local bands who feature my work, and I am extremely grateful. But, no, I don’t really make money off photography at all. Maybe once a year I will get a paid shoot. With that being said, I can’t honestly say I can consider myself a “service”. I am an artist and want to create art with my own perspective. I want to work with people who call on me because they enjoy the way I see and capture things. I work very well with people who are compatible with me on creative levels.

I have been trying to mold my portfolio into something that reflects my style of art. During my hiatus, I am going to be sketching out ideas. I have a project in mind and I will be working on it in my spare time. They will not be “modeling shoots”, they will simply be conceptual. I have friends who are eager to help me with this project, and all I require from them is body language and an understanding of my vision. This will all be done in my spare time, no pressure, no expectations. I am very excited to start this project and have art to show for it.

If anyone is interested in shooting with me, I suggest you send me an e-mail. I am on hiatus, but depending on my availability, concept, distance, etc., I may be available or at least keep you in mind for when my hiatus is over.

This is really all I have to say for now. I haven’t really updated my Model Mayhem much, and I need to at some point. I do a lot of updates on Facebook. It’s Autumn and I plan on taking a lot of pictures. Just not so much “shoots”. Just doing my own thing.

Before I go, I want to share a picture I took recently at a shoot with Reine Kaos. She asked me to do a fae type shoot with her a while back and we finally met to do it. She had me meet her in Penryn in a forest type area. It was really pretty and we had a bit of an adventure. Anyways we took quite a few pictures and she had a few different looks going on. I want to work on that set more when I get free time, but this is one of my favorites from it!
ImageShe is very fun to work with, and I would like to consider her one of my regulars, hoping that we’ll do much more art in the future!

This is all for now, e-mail me if you have any questions.

New project in mind.

I decided on a new project and I am super stoked about it! Before I provide details, I just want to update on a few things.

I recently went to Stella Natura and took a lot of pictures there. The second day was interrupted by bad weather, so I resumed my picture taking the third day. A lot of the pictures came out great, but some of them were more for documentation. My challenges were taller people standing in front of me and the sunlight fading away. I chose not to use my flash, and since my lens is mediocre, I had to deal with lighting issues. The pics still came out nice, though, and they may be viewed here. It also includes the pictures I took at the pre-festival in Nevada City.

I had another awesome photo sesh when Sacrament Ov Impurity came to town. They were joined by Xenotaph, The Witching Hour, and it was also Torture Chamber’s first show. You may see the pics here.

I want to take a moment to remind all musicians I photograph that I can provide large files of the pictures I take at shows if needed for album art, websites, press kits, or whatever. Just e-email me at with information on the photo set you need. If I don’t reply soon, message me on my Facebook page, Angelize Photography. I have noticed a few important e-mails made their way to my spam folder, and I want to make sure you can reach me, so heads up on that.

Here is one taken at Warmaggedon of Loki from Fiends At Feast!

I will try to add the rest of the set on my Flickr soon. I still have a lot of photo sets that I need to catch up on, and that will happen eventually. My personal life has kept me quite busy.

As for modeling shoots, I do have some things lined up that I am excited about. Most of them are waiting on more items needed for the shoot or a date to be made. I don’t like rushing things, so this is fine.

I came up with an idea for a photo series project. I have recently discovered the existence of these very old fabric masks and started collecting them to use for shoots. I know very little about these particular masks. They are said to be from the 1930’s-1950’s and I have also read they are made my Ben Cooper, however I am unsure if that information is accurate. I am also unsure of these variety of masks come from the same maker. They are so unique and amazing that I have been buying them here and there to save for shoots. I decided to make a series of them. The complete creepiness of them go perfectly with my style. I have even decided to use some concepts I had for other shoots and mesh them together with a mask to include in this series because the ideas work well together.

The magic of this photo series is I will not only be including models! I want to include friends of all shapes, sizes, age, whatnot. This includes males! Wardrobe will be discussed based on the idea for the particular mask, and masks will be available depending on what I currently own and what I am able to obtain moving forward. Modeling experience is not a must, but the usage of body language and the understanding of what I am trying to capture, is.

I can’t wait to see where things lead to with these mask shoots. One of the masks is already spoken for and I cannot wait to shoot and upload the first example! One of the reason I love these masks, and masks in general, is I am a sucker for mystery. Some of the images from this series will be different from others in various ways, but they will all definitely look related. If you have ever seen Begotten by E. Elias Merhige, you will see a hint of how I am inspired by that in this series, which I’m gonna call Hollow Shell. ๐Ÿ™‚

A few updates.

Yeah, I know I haven’t written in a while, I suck. On a good note, I have been keeping a little busier than normal with my photography. There’s so much more I want to do, but I need time and I have to buy some things needed for some of the shoots. Since I am such a slacker in writing here, you might as well search for my photography page on Facebook. I usually put updates there.

The last two shoots I did with Mischa were quite amazing! A while back, we did this shoot which was inspired by the awesome art of Miss Van!

We did another shoot recently that was very easy and fun to set up!

IMG_5179censoredThat was a really awesome shoot, simply done in my shower. Mischa really used that shower curtain to create some very strange effects that looked amazing! You may see more of this set HERE.

I also had an amazing shoot with Oodie and it was my first time working with her! I had admired her work for quite a while and was excited to shoot with her. I had been wanting to do a cocoon shoot and she was all about it! I got the stuff we needed and she found an amazing location. We captured some amazing images in less than an hour and I took less than three hundred images. I was fortunate the lighting was perfect.

That was a very fun shoot. Oodie was having fun playing around in the bodyhose, especially with the clear goo. I really wanted to do a really nice cocoon shoot and she really brought it to life.

I have more shoots planned but, again, trying to set finds aside to grab the stuff I need. I’m happy my style is taking shape. My Model Mayhem portfolio is made up of images that are an example of what I want to create and I hope the willing models find me. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been kind of keeping busy.

I am hoping that inactivity I was experiencing was just a dry patch and that I am really being productive with my photography again. That would be good. I also have some shoots planned that I am stoked about,

I am up to my eyeballs in pics from shows and also recent shoots I’ve done. Well, maybe not up to my eyeballs. But I’m backed up. I guess if you want to see what’s new, just click HEREย and look at my most recent sets on Flickr! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have had a pro-account on Flickr for a few years now and I love it, but I am kind of on the fence about their new layout. Hmm…

I did a shoot with Sydย in May and it was our first time shooting! She was very fun to work with. If you look at the set we did, you’ll see it was the nature shoot concept! I hadn’t done that in a while! Click here to see that! (Gosh, I love linking stuff.)

I recently reconnected with Luckie and it had been a few years since our last shoot. It was pretty fun! Check my Flickr if you want to see some from my set with Luckie!

I recently did a shoot with Ciara and made a little collage of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am really pleased with how it came out! It’s a little different than that style I usually see her in, but I love it when models can pull off different looks! ๐Ÿ™‚

I've been kind of keeping busy.

One thing I can tell you about these last three shoots I did was it was annoyingly hot outside! That is and always will be my problem with summer…I hate it and don’t like to shoot in it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I try to avoid even planning shoots during triple digit weather. I am good on that! :[

As for live music, I have still been taking more pics. There’s a bunch of folders on my desk with pics I need to resize and edit. My camera seemed to be really on point when Sacrament Ov Impurity played here! I was really happy with the pics from this night: Sacrament Ov Impurity at On the Y

Here’s a pic of Jess!

Yes, I’m backed up again, what’s new…

I just have to laugh about it now. I guess I’ll post a few things.

Click HEREย to see pictures from a show last August which Rotten Funeral Headlined. Here’s an image from that…and remember to click these images to see a larger version.

Those are quite late, and I do have more from last year I still need to upload. I have some recent ones available to view from this past Friday. Click HEREย to see all the pictures from Arioch and the Malefactor’s birthday show. There were a few surprises there…

I have a whole lot of pics I still need to upload, but I keep backing myself up even more. ๐Ÿ™‚

I did a great shoot with Carma & Ciara involving different sets. Here’s a few from that…

I took some black & whites of them…Carma and I finally did our Mommie Dearest shoot we’ve planned for so long. And I did my first alt shoot with Ciara! There’s much more in due time. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll post more stuff soon!

New Flyer

photo shoot flyer 3-18-13

I have been needing to make a new flyer for a very long time and also change my rates, but I’d never made myself some time to update my flyer. So I whipped up something really fast to put on my Facebook page. It’s simple, and has the three models I’ve created with the most…they are amazing. (Mischa, Carma, Ciara) I always anxiously await working with them again.

The information I have on my Facebook is as follows…

$50 for up to TWO hours.
Includes a disk of all images and 10 edits.
Please be on time for our scheduled shoot and cancellations must be at least 24 hours in advance or I won’t be too eager to reschedule another shoot.PLEASE message me if you have questions.
Serious inquiries only.

*I will consider trade work with those who share creative compatibility or are willing to collaborate with me on my own projects.

As for the part about my own projects, I have been really wanting to update my portfolio to reflect the inspiration and art I’ve had bottled up in my mind for a while. To be honest, I don’t have any idea who would allow themselves to be almost complete putty in my hands, but I’m interested in knowing who that might be.
And then there’s that lovely part where I need to collect all the items needed for such shoots…

Recent shoot with Mischa!

I haven’t been shooting as much as I’d like to these days, but I do have some things I need to get in order before I can concentrate on that. I was having a conversation with a friend, Digital Pulse Photography, and he convinced me to try shooting RAW. I now have a program that can open those files, so I figured I might dabble in it. I told Mischa about the idea and we threw a shoot together. Here’s one of the images!

ImageI have some more HERE and plan to upload more soon! And how did I like shooting RAW? Well…the camera seemed a bit slower. And I still have yet to learn how all the CS6 features work. That will probably take forever. I need to experiment more…
